Resident Experts of the Civil War
Bloom's instructional strategies include using key examples to emphasize connections and expand concepts. By having students explain the concept through summarization and paraphrasing, they are able to fully integrate the information for themselves.
Each 7th grader was tasked with becoming an expert in one facet of the US Civil War. They then taught that information to the class. They were assigned a section of the book, they outlined that section and then engaged in additional research of the topic. Once they were familiar with the subject matter, they created a teaching aid to help explain the information. Finally they devised 2 questions which would eventually become a part of the test over the unit. Class members were expected to take notes and ask questions during the presentations. I will post examples of teaching aids as soon as they become available.
